Vikings rally past Post Falls

Rachel Moore led the way with 12 kills as Coeur d’Alene rallied from a 14-12 deficit in the final game to beat Post Falls 25-22, 18-25, 25-18, 14-25, 16-14 in Inland Empire League volleyball Thursday at Post Falls.

Moore also had a block and an ace, and Heather Helmhout added 23 digs as the Vikings improved to 6-5 overall, 4-2 in league play.

Paula Kastner led the Trojans (4-10, 2-4) with 12 kills, four aces and 21 digs.

In other IEL action, Danielle Jacobson had three kills, five aces and nine digs as Lakeland (5-4, 2-4) beat visiting Sandpoint (1-7, 1-5) 29-27, 25-10, 25-20 at Rathdrum.

Katie Poston had nine kills and a pair of blocks as Bonners Ferry swept Kellogg 25-16, 25-18, 25-20 in Intermountain League action at Bonners Ferry. Jennifer Youngwirth had 12 assists, six aces and chipped in with 11 service points in the first game for the Badgers (11-5, 3-1). Marisa Bush had five kills and eight digs for the Wildcats (6-4, 1-3). … In other IML action, St. Maries (13-3, 4-0) cruised past Priest River (9-5, 2-2) 25-14, 25-18, 25-9 at Priest River.

Hanna Nyrop and Darcy Collins had 12 kills apiece as Kootenai held off pesky Wallace to win 25-13, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16 in a matchup of the North Star League’s top two teams at Wallace. Nyrop also finished with three blocks and Collins 12 digs as the Warriors (13-1, 6-0) grabbed the upper hand in the NSL by handing the Miners (6-3, 5-1) their first league loss of the season. Krista Williams led Wallace with 11 kills and Cara Hayman had 13 assists. … In other NSL action, Nona Johnson and Sara Gauthier each had 12 aces as Lakeside (3-7, 2-4) had little trouble with Mullan, sweeping the Tigers (0-11, 0-6) 25-23, 25-11, 25-20 in Plummer. … Post Falls Christian (4-6, 3-3) swept Coeur d’Alene Charter (3-5, 1-5) 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 at Post Falls Christian.

Boys soccer

Lake City got goals from Michael Eggleston in the 52nd minute and Michael Wyatt in the 63rd, both headers off assists Jason Anderson, and the Timberwolves beat Moscow in Inland Empire League action at Lake City. Scott Klein made four saves to earn the shutout for LC (4-3-2, 2-2-1) as the Timberwolves outshot the Bears (2-4, 1-4) 12-4. … In other IEL action, Coeur d’Alene’s Garre Lowell scored in the 12th minute off an assist from Justin Honsaker, only to have Michael Brewer score an unassisted equalizer in the 38th as the Vikings (5-1-3, 4-0-1) and Sandpoint (6-1-2, 3-0-2) played to a 1-1 tie at Sandpoint.

Girls soccer

Becca Stone had a goal and an assist as Sandpoint (4-4-2, 4-1) scored twice in the first half and came away with a 2-0 road win over Coeur d’Alene (8-2, 4-1) in Inland Empire League play. … In other IEL play, Kenna Gardes scored in the sixth minute and Sara Quinn made three saves for the shutout as Moscow (4-3, 3-2) beat Lake City (5-4-1, 1-3) at Moscow.

Washington preps

Senior outside hitter Emily Ness registered seven kills as Shadle Park (5-1, 5-1) swept Central Valley 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 in Greater Spokane League volleyball at Central Valley (4-2, 4-2). Brynn Delong added two aces and eight blocks as the Highlanders remained in second place in the GSL behind undefeated Mead.
