Editor’s note: Due to incorrect information provided to the newspaper, the topic of the lesson at this event was incorrect in Thursday Valley Voice. It is correct in today’s story.

Children accompanied by parents will be allowed to choose a free helmet at next Saturday’s Paint-a-Helmet at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center. The free event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Children can decorate their headgear with paints and markers. There also will be exhibitors ranging from Shriners clowns to child-seat safety advocates who will provide lessons and entertainment for children. Inspectors will check child seats to make sure they are safe.

Children also will receive a history lesson in the Civil War, with costumes and a tent.

Kiwanis members put on the event every year, and it fulfills the organization’s dedication to children, said organizer Joseph Rudmann, Spokane Valley Kiwanis president.
