Spokane Valley
Carjacking suspect arrested at bar
An alleged carjacker was quickly apprehended Friday night in Spokane Valley with help from a passing motorist.
Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said the incident occurred when one of the owners of Concrete Works, 205 S. Pines Road, paused to check for traffic as she was leaving the business about 7 p.m.
Before she could pull onto Pines Road, 39-year-old Brian K. Kaatz got into the passenger side of her vehicle, Reagan said.
The frightened woman jumped out of her 2000 Nissan Maxima and ran to a nearby convenience store to call for help, and Kaatz drove away with her car, according to Reagan.
A man who saw what happened followed Kaatz to the rear of Dave’s Bar & Grill, about a half-dozen blocks away at 12124 E. Sprague, and confronted him briefly until Spokane Valley police arrived.
Kaatz, who was on probation, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree theft and second-degree robbery. No information on his criminal history was immediately available.
