Get out, Get going
Free skid lids for kids
If you’ve ever wanted to add flowers or flames to your bike helmet, here’s your chance. Today is the annual Paint-A-Helmet day sponsored by the Kiwanis. All children accompanied by a parent will get a free helmet and a chance to decorate it any way they want with markers and paints.
The event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center at Broadway and Havana. There will also be exhibits and other activities for children. So go wild. Draw crashing ocean waves, unicorns, dolphins – whatever strikes your fancy. Just do us all a favor and leave off the purple dinosaurs.
Craft sale helps center
One can always find something fun to buy at a craft sale. If you’re just dying to add a few crafts to your collection, head over to the Spokane Valley Senior Center today for a spring craft sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center, in CenterPlace at 2426 N. Discovery Place, will be stuffed with hand-crafted items like jewelry, blankets, paintings, benches, dolls and Easter baskets. There will also be raffle tickets sold for $1.
The sale is one of the senior center’s annual fund-raisers to help cover operating costs. So shop freely.
A dance for contrarians
The Spokane Folklore Society is hosting a Spring Fling Contra Dance tonight from 8 to 11 p.m. at the East Spokane Grange Hall, Park and Mission. There will be an optional potluck of snacks and desserts.
Contra dances are traditional dances from New England. No experience is necessary, but if you’re really worried about your two left feet tripping you up, come early at 7:30 for some free instruction. The dance uses callers and it’s not necessary to have a partner, so wives can still come if they can’t tear their husbands away from ESPN. Admission is $12 for nonmembers and $8 for Folklore Society members.
