NIC soccer dominates awards

The Spokesman-Review

It was a big night Saturday for North Idaho College men’s soccer, Moscow High’s Kelsey Taylor and Lake City’s Mike Vickhammer at the 44th annual North Idaho Sports Banquet at the Coeur d’Alene Inn.

NIC men’s soccer, which captured the Region 18 title, was named college team of the year; sophomore forward Garga Caserta won male athlete of the year; and Dan Hogan, who coached the men’s and women’s teams, was selected coach of the year.

In prep awards, Taylor, a University of Idaho-bound volleyball player, was selected female athlete of the year and shared top volleyball player honors with teammate Meredith Dolny and Kootenai’s Hannah Nyrop. The state-champion Bears were named female team of the year.

Vickhammer was tabbed male athlete of the year and shared top football player honors with teammate Kyle Ferebee, Bonners Ferry’s Matt Rice and Sandpoint’s Erik Stoll.

The Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed four new members: Coeur d’Alene boys basketball coach Dean Lundblad, former University of Idaho quarterback Ken Hobart, ex-Vandals kicker Mike Hollis and former UI basketball standout Brian Kellerman.
