Pfeifer lands first UI recruits
Idaho men’s basketball coach George Pfeifer Tuesday announced the signing of his first two recruits since taking over as head coach in March: Trevor Morris and Mario Mackey
Morris will join the Vandals this fall as a sophomore while Mackey will be a junior.
Mackey is a 5-foot-10 point guard from Aurora, Colo. and will transfer to Idaho from Otero Junior college at La Junta, Colo. Mackey averaged 14 points and seven assists as a sophomore for the Rattlers and was a first team all-region and first team all-tournament team selection. He led OJC in points, assists and steals during the 2005-06 season. Mackey is a 2004 graduate of Rangeview High School in Aurora.
Morris is a 6-4 shooting guard from Miles Community College at Miles City, Mont. He averaged 18 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for the MCC Pioneers as a freshman and was a second team all-Mon Dak Athletic Conference selection. Morris shot 40 percent from the 3-point line during the 2005-06 season and is an 82 percent free-throw shooter. He is 2005 graduate of Hellgate High School in Missoula.
College baseball
Scott Campbell had four hits, and Gonzaga rode a seven-run first inning to a 9-4 win over Washington State (23-15) at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman.
The Bulldogs (24-14) strung together six singles in the first inning, capped by Darin Holcomb’s two-run single up the middle. Bobby Carlson added an insurance run with a solo home run in the eighth inning, and Bobby McEwen gave up four runs in six innings to get his fifth win of the season.
College football
University of Idaho quarterback Steve Wichman has pleaded guilty in Moscow to an amended charge of inattentive driving. He was fined $359 and will be required to attend an alcohol awareness class.
Wichman was arrested Jan. 14 for suspicion of driving under the influence after being stopped for driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
Women’s golf
Gonzaga’s Mary Kate Morgan shot a final-round 74 to tie for third place at the West Coast Conference Championships in Cooperopolis, Calif., matching the highest individual placing for the Bulldogs.
Pepperdine placed five in the top 10, including medalist Jayvie Agojo who finished 5-over-par, to capture the team title at the par-72 Saddle Creek Golf Course. GU was fourth.
Men’s golf
Brian Locke of Loyola Marymount shot an 8-under 64 in the final round of the West Coast Conference Championships in Cooperopolis, Calif., to capture medalist honors and lead the Lions to the team championship.
Gonzaga’s Jimmy Hayes finished tied for 16th at the par-72 Saddle Creek Golf Course and was the Bulldogs’ top finisher. GU placed last.

Raul Vijil of the Spokane Shock was named Offensive Player of the Week after accounting for five of the Shock’s six touchdowns in a 44-41 win over the Everett Hawks on Saturday. Vijil’s total tied the highest single-game scoring mark.
