Get out, Get going
Sold for a pittance
You never know what you’ll find at a used-book sale hosted by the Friends of the Spokane Valley Library, though finding a rare first edition is probably out of the question. But there’s sure to be something for every taste at the sale – mystery, classic literature, romance and popular fiction. There also likely will be old movies and music, so head out early to browse through the best selection. The sale is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the library at 12004 E. Main Ave.
Giant antique sale
Another good place to find hidden gems this weekend is the 31st annual Custer’s Spring Antique and Collector Sale at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana. More than 300 vendors are expected, and shoppers can consider fine china, estate jewelry, old toys, collectible linens, furniture, tools, dolls and more. You could find that perfect little table for your entryway that you’ve been looking for or something else you didn’t know you needed.
Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 for the weekend. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.
Toss the yuck
Today is your last chance to turn in household hazardous waste items at a Spokane Valley fire station. They’ll take paint leftover from that project you did over the winter, old automotive oil, the slug bait that didn’t slow down the slimy critters for a minute and that spray cleaner that stripped the paint from your walls.
Volunteers will be at Valley Fire Station 2, 9111 E. Frederick Ave., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. And if you just can’t make it today, you can always take hazardous items to any of the three Spokane area transfer stations for free disposal. Call the recycling hotline at 625-6800 for hours and locations.
