Great Northern League: Brooke Hesselgesser hit a two-run home run in the first inning and finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs Saturday as Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) scored once in the bottom of the seventh to beat Riverside 8-7 to open a doubleheader at Riverside. Megan Sanders hit a pair of solo homers and was 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Riverside (4-6, 1-3). In the second game, Lacey Jordan went 4 for 4, scored twice and drove in two, including a solo homer in the second, as Lakeside (5-10, 4-5) completed the sweep 7-2. Melissa Barcellos hit a solo homer in the seventh for Lakeside, while Tammy Hall hit a solo shot for Riverside, also in the seventh.
Inland Empire League: Lela Work (3-1) threw a four-hit shutout and drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday as Lake City (12-3, 10-2) completed a doubleheader sweep of visiting Lewiston (4-10, 3-8) with a 2-0 victory. In the opener, Kelli Bridges went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs as Lake City won 10-6.

Great Northern League: Ryan Reitmeier (8-1) threw a complete game, striking out 13, and hit a two-run double in the first inning as Medical Lake (10-6, 10-5) defeated Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 5-3 in the first game of a doubleheader at Medical Lake. In the second game, Lakeside (11-6, 11-5) got a solo home run from Colten Eglund and three RBIs from Cody Reeves in a 10-6 victory. … Jason Paul gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits, and Riverside (12-7, 10-7) got a solo homer from Taylor McMahon and three RBIs from Tyler Trudeau in an 8-2 victory over Deer Park (0-17, 0-15) in the opener of a doubleheader at Deer Park. In the second game, McMahon hit a two-run home run, finishing 3 for 3 with three RBIs, and Derek Robertson was also 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs as the Rams completed the sweep with a 16-2 win in five innings. … The standings are bunched up with first-place Pullman (9-4) percentage points ahead of Lakeside, and Colville (10-5), Medical Lake and Riverside (10-7) all lurking right behind.
Intermountain League: Ben Turner hit a three-run homer and a grand slam as the Badgers (10-4, 5-2) posted a 13-7 win over Priest River (6-8, 4-4) to open an Intermountain League baseball doubleheader. Turner hit two more homers, including the game-winning two-run shot in the eighth, to lead the Badgers to a 9-7 second-game win. Turner finished the day 6 for 8 with five runs scored and 10 RBIs. … Timberlake stormed back from a 10-2 deficit to close the gap to one run, but the Tigers couldn’t complete the comeback and fell to visiting St. Maries 10-9 in the second game of a doubleheader at Spirit Lake. Mitch Douglas had three hits and two RBIs, and Marshal Barnhouse threw 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for Timberlake (2-11, 2-4). In the opener, Dalton Baker threw a complete-game one-hitter as St. Maries (8-3, 5-0) won 11-0 in five innings.
Track and field
Kelly McNamee took first place in the high jump to lead Ferris to a seventh-place finish at the all-girls Lake Washington meet in Kirkland, Wash. McNamee cleared 5 feet, 4 inches, tied with Gig Harbor’s Bree LeRoy. But McNamee had no misses, giving her the first-place finish. Ferris finished with 21.5 points, tied with Shorewood. Skyline won with 58 points. Other notable Ferris finishers included Tanya Romanchuk, who finished fifth in the shot put at 36-9; Aly Spear, who took fourth in the 300 hurdles in 46.43 seconds; and Michayla Mueller, who tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 10-0.
