Everett bounces Indians in 10th inning
EVERETT – Six innings of no-hit pitching couldn’t keep the Spokane Indians from extending their losing streak to four on Tuesday afternoon.
Joseph White’s no-out, run-scoring single to right field in the 10th inning gave the Everett AquaSox a 5-4 win over the Indians in Northwest League play at Memorial Stadium.
Everett (21-22) won the series 4-1 and the season series 6-4 while handing Spokane (15-28) its eighth loss in nine games. Both teams are 1-1 in extra-inning games this season.
Spokane has a rare day off today before starting a five-game home series Thursday at Avista Stadium against Vancouver.
Indians starter Brett Zamzow exited with an injury while facing his second batter of the game. His replacement, Glenn Swanson, threw four innings of no-hit ball, striking out four and walking two.
Derrick Jones continued the no-hit streak in the fifth and Patrick Donovan pitched a 1-2-3 sixth.
Spokane’s 4-0 lead evaporated in the seventh when Donovan allowed four runs on three hits, capped by Leury Bonilla’s three-run homer to left field.
Spokane managed just one hit in the final three innings, with Douglas Fister (2-4) pitching a perfect 10th to earn the win.
Everett’s winning rally began when Austin Weilep (1-1) walked Dean Zorn to open the 10th. Zorn moved to second on second baseman Joey Hooft’s fielding error, and scored when White’s liner just eluded right fielder Wally Backman.
Spokane’s Nikolas Cadena had a two-run homer in the fifth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Chad Tracy and Christopher Davis both went 2 for 4 for the Indians.
