Sitar concert planned at Unity

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., is hosting Pandit Shivnath Mishra and Deobrat Mishra in a sitar concert Saturday at 7 p.m.

The South Asia Cultural Association and the Spokane Folklore Society are sponsoring this father-and-son duo who are touring the country to share their classical Indian music.

Tickets will be available at the door for $15, and children younger than 10 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Transfiguration celebration

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1703 N. Washington St., is celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration on Saturday and Sunday.

The celebration begins with Great Vespers on Saturday at 6 p.m. and an Orthros service Sunday at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m., there will be a Divine Liturgy followed by a Transfiguration luncheon.

The meal will include salmon, rice pilaf, salad, green beans and dessert.

The lunch is $15 for adults and $8 for children younger than 12. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be sold separately.

The proceeds of the lunch will go toward the church’s new copper roof.

The church also is presenting a Paraklesis to the Theotokos (Mother of God) service Monday, Wednesday and Aug. 11 at 7 p.m.

The traditional service is chanted during the first two weeks of August and also during times of distress or sorrow.

Outdoor concert

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road, is continuing its summer concert series Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Next week’s featured band is Moko Jumbie, a group that plays music from the Caribbean and uses steel drums and vibraphone.

During the intermission, representatives of the Prince of Peace Preschool will be on hand to talk about early childhood development and parenting classes.

It is suggested that audience members bring a blanket or chair.

Neighbor Day

Suncrest Baptist Church, 5920 Highway 291, Nine Mile Falls, is presenting Neighbor Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day will include a bounce house, live entertainment, face painting, hot dogs and cotton candy.

Hillyard breakfast

St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4620 N. Regal St,, is presenting a breakfast Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m.

The breakfast will be part of the annual Hillyard Festival.

The cost is $4.50 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.

Vacation Bible school

Green Bluff United Methodist Church, 9908 E. Green Bluff Road, is presenting “Fiesta,” a vacation Bible school, Monday through Aug. 11 from 6 to 8:15 p.m. each day.
