Phillies 8, Cardinals 1: At St. Louis, Chase Utley quickly dispensed with the suspense, singling in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 35 games in Philadelphia’s victory over St. Louis.

Dodgers 3, Reds 0: At Cincinnati, former Chicago Cubs hurler Greg Maddux made a memorable debut for the Dodgers, pitching six no-hit innings before leaving after a rain delay, posting his 328th career victory as Los Angeles beat Cincinnati.

Diamondbacks 10-3, Cubs 2-7: At Chicago, Matt Murton tied a major league record with four doubles and drove in five runs to help Chicago beat Arizona and split a doubleheader. The Diamondbacks won the first game behind Stephen Drew’s four RBIs.

Marlins 4, Mets 1: At Miami, Miguel Cabrera’s three-run double broke a tie with two outs in the eighth, and Dontrelle Willis earned his first victory since July 7 as Florida beat New York.

Padres 5, Astros 2: At San Diego, Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and three RBIs to help San Diego beat Houston and snap a three-game losing streak.

Pirates 3, Braves 2: At Pittsburgh, former New York Yankees pitcher Shawn Chacon limited Atlanta to one run in five innings to win Pittsburgh debut, preventing a sweep by the Braves.
