Two attempt copper theft
Two men attempted to steal about $1,400 in scrap copper from a loading dock in broad daylight Monday only to be foiled by police and workers, according to a news release from Sgt. Dave Reagan.
Police arrested Valley resident Dwayne L. Noel, 34, after a report that he and another man backed up to the empty Albertsons building at Sprague Avenue and Pines Road and pushed a pallet full of copper into a pickup, Reagan said.
People working on the building saw them and blocked the truck with a fork lift, at which point one of the men ran, according to the release. Noel tried to talk employees out of calling the police but jumped back in the truck and pushed the fork lift out of the way when he saw one of them dialing 911, Reagan said.
An officer stopped Noel, 14006 E. Mallon Ave., nearby and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree theft and possession of methamphetamine, according to the release.
