Hey, coach Holmgren, don’t take it out on us

The Spokesman-Review

Friday morning my two grandsons and I got up at 6 to go see the Seahawks practice and get autographs at EWU. We got there, signed in and got stamped. We bought more cards in the souvenir shop and got in line for the autographs. A group of daycare kids came and sat down by us. The teacher told them they would have to wait 1 1/2 hours. No complaints – these kids were real Seahawks fans.

At about 10:30 the coach called the team in to talk. A few minutes later the players left the field and headed through the fenced area going back to the field house. The kids asked about getting autographs. One of the players said they couldn’t stop because the coach was mad and they had to go to the field house.

A few minutes later a young man came out and told us he was sorry, but the coach was mad and so there would not be any autographs signed that day. Not this practice, not the next.

The kids couldn’t believe it. One commented, “If the coach is mad, why doesn’t he make the players run or something? We are the fans. Why take it out on us?”

My grandsons were born Seahawks fans. It didn’t matter if they were winning or losing, they were still fans and they will stay fans. But I hope Mike Holmgren will stop and think, when he gets “mad” at his team, that he needs to remember his loyal Seahawks fans. After all, the fans are the ones who buy the tickets and all the merchandise.
