Tigers 9, Twins 3: At Detroit, Zach Miner won a matchup of impressive rookies and the Tigers roughed up ailing Francisco Liriano again in a victory over Minnesota. Miner improved to 7-2, allowing three runs and seven hits, while striking out three in 61/3 innings.

Angels 6, White Sox 3: At Chicago, Vladimir Guerrero, Robb Quinlan, and Jose Molina all homered for Los Angeles in a victory over the White Sox. Kelvim Escobar picked up his eighth win and Francisco Rodriguez earned his 27th save in 30 chances.

Blue Jays 8, Orioles 1: At Toronto, Brian Tallet and two relievers combined on a two-hitter in place of injured starter Ted Lilly, and Lyle Overbay homered and drove in five runs to lead the Blue Jays in a win over Baltimore.

Athletics 7, Rangers 4: At Oakland, Calif., Mark Ellis drove in four runs with a homer and a bases-loaded double, leading the surging Athletics to a win over Texas. Milton Bradley also homered and drove in two runs for the A.L. West-leading A’s.
