YOUR BEAUTIFUL HOME

Terry Voss has built his garden in the back of his historic home that overlooks the Spokane River. The ghost of a former owner haunts the grounds, he says.

Overlooking the Spokane River, a beautiful rose garden pays homage to the history of a home and a man who lived there.

Sara and Terry Voss purchased the large bungalow 10 years ago and almost immediately recognized the fact that they were also the proud owners of a ghost.

“We were so excited, it was our first, big, nice house,” Terry Voss said. “Almost immediately we started hearing things and seeing images.”

The house was built by Spokane pioneer Peter Hughes, and Terry and Sara Voss are convinced Hughes’ ghost is still there.

Shortly after purchasing the house, the couple hit on the idea of holding a garden party to appease their guest.

“We had as many as 70 people in the garden,” Voss said. “You are surrounded by the scent of the roses and the view is spectacular.”

The party seems to have worked.

“We don’t hear as much as we did in the beginning,” Voss said.
