RiverHawks return home for must-win game tonight

After losing 4-3 to the Wenatchee AppleSox on Tuesday, the Spokane RiverHawks must win tonight’s game to stay alive in the three-game West Coast Collegiate Baseball League Championship series.

Game 2 of the series is at Avista Stadium at 6:30 tonight. The RiverHawks are 17-4 at home this season.

If the RiverHawks win Game 2, the third game will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Avista.

The RiverHawks won the regular-season championship posting a 28-16 record and earning the top seed in the playoffs. The AppleSox had to win two games against the Aloha Knights to earn the second seed with a 27-15 record.

Tuesday, in the series opener, Spokane lost to the defending WCCBL champions at Wenatchee’s Paul Thomas Stadium in front of more than 1,100 fans.

The AppleSox scored three runs in the third inning after the RiverHawks scored the first run in the first inning. Spokane battled back and scored two runs in the fifth to tie the game. Wenatchee went ahead in the eighth. With a runner on at second, the RiverHawks couldn’t score the tying run in the ninth inning.
