White Elephant sweeps 16U title
The Spokane Valley Girls Softball Association completed its 2006 season with tournament play at the end of July at East Valley Middle School.
Regular season champion White Elephant, 8-2 coming into the tournament, swept to the 16U title. White Elephant knocked off regular season runner-up Old Country Buffet to reach the final, then knocked off BNSF to win the championship.
14U Tournament: Commercial Battery put its game together in the postseason to win the season-ending tournament. Commercial Battery finished the regular season in second place (8-2) behind Farrell’s Spray.
Tri-Diamond, the No. 8 seed going into the tournament, was the biggest surprise. After beating Ford & Grimes to get into the tournament, Tri-Diamond knocked off Farrell’s Spray, Columbia Paint and Commercial Battery to earn the first berth in the final.
U12 Tournament. McCoy’s Pitching Staff swept through the regular season undefeated and did the same with the Division I tournament, stopping Arby’s in the final.
Legends finished the Division II regular season with a 7-2-1 record, second behind BNSF at 8-0-2. In the tournament, Legends handed BNSF its first two losses to win the championship.
In the championship game, McCoy’s Pitching Staff held Legends in check to take the overall title.
10U Tournament: McCoy’s Pitching Staff capped a perfect 10-0 regular season by winning the tourney – but it wasn’t a sweep. Runner-up Farrell’s Spray, which finished third during the regular season, knocked McCoy’s into the loser’s bracket. The eventual champions needed to get past surprising Cuda Buffalo – the fifth-seed coming out of the regular season that knocked off both No. 4-seeded Old Country Buffet and second-seed Greenacres Gypsum to reach the consolation final – before winning the rematch with Farrell’s.
