NIC offering credit course discount to senior citizens

The Spokesman-Review

North Idaho College is offering a new flat rate to senior citizens 60 and older who enroll in college credit courses specifically designed for seniors. Those courses are offered for $20 each.

Courses designed for seniors offered during fall semester include topics such as computers and the Internet, cooking, personal safety, understanding nonprescription medications and tai chi and yoga.

Seniors also can enroll in all other college credit classes at a reduced rate. The rate for seniors taking a regular credit class at NIC will be $25 plus an additional $5 for each credit.

A three-credit class would normally cost $379. However, with the senior discount, that class will now be $40. Fees for noncredit courses, materials, books or special fees remain full price. This includes all community education courses offered through NIC’s Workforce Training Center in Post Falls.

To register for courses, call the NIC Registrar’s Office at (208) 769-3320.

Another special service NIC offers to senior citizens is the NIC Gold Card program, which offers those 60 and older free admission to all NIC-sponsored events at which admission is charged. Events held on campus but sponsored by entities other than NIC, such as Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, are not included.

In addition, seniors with an NIC Gold Card also qualify for a $5 semester-long parking permit to park anywhere that student parking is permitted on campus. To sign up for an NIC Gold Card, visit the admissions office in Lee-Kildow Hall or call (208) 769-3311.
