Volcanoes drub Indians
KEIZER, Ore. – Gib Hobson (3-3) tossed five shutout innings and Adam Witter and Bradley Boyer hit solo home runs to power the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes to a 6-1 victory over the Spokane Indians in Northwest League baseball action on Friday night.
The loss, coupled with a Boise win over Everett, dropped the Indians (19-33) 10 games behind the Hawks with 24 games left in the season.
The Volcanoes (35-17) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Indians starter Juan Garcia (0-4). Emmanuel Burriss led off with a double and scored on Matthew Weston’s one-out single.
Salem-Keizer pushed across three more runs in the second, scoring on a wild pitch, a groundout and a Ryan Rohlinger single.
Patrick Donovan relieved Garcia to start the fifth and surrendered a homer to Witter with two outs. Boyer’s one-out home run off Donovan in the sixth capped the scoring.
K.C. Herren homered to lead off the ninth for Spokane.
