City accepting service grant applications

Public service funding applications are available for the 2007 fiscal year (July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008), the city of Spokane Community Development Department said in a news release last week.

Up to $150,000 will be allocated among public service and human service agencies helping those of low and moderate incomes within city limits. Examples of eligible activities include child care, health care, crime prevention, substance-abuse counseling, job training, community center operation, recreation programs and other services for youth, families and seniors, the department said.

To be eligible for funding, service providers must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or a public agency.

These funds come from federal community development block grants that the city receives through the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Applications and more information may be obtained by contacting the city of Spokane Community Development Department at 625-6325, TDD 625-6694. The department is on the sixth floor of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The deadline is 4 p.m. Sept 14. No faxed copies will be accepted.
