The Spokesman-Review

Spokane product Rebekah Noble placed third in her semifinal heat Wednesday to qualify for the women’s 800-meter finals at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Beijing.

Noble (University of Oregon/Rogers High) finished in 2 minutes, 5.56 seconds to become the only American to make Friday’s eight-runner final.

The top two in each of three heats qualified, as did the two with the next-best times – Noble and Elizet Banda (2:05.57).

Football

Spokane Shock wide receiver Charles Frederick was named arenafootball2 player of the week for the fourth time this season.

Frederick had four touchdowns, 145 all-purpose yards, and the game-winning catch with 2 seconds left during last Saturday’s 50-47 playoff win over Bakersfield.

The Shock will host the Arkansas Twisters at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Arena in the National Conference Championship. The winner will play at the Arena Cup on Aug. 26 in Puerto Rico.
