Cycling enthusiast opens Liberty Lake shop
Miles and miles of bike trails line the streets of Liberty Lake.
Now, with the opening of Cycle Sports near Albertsons, the fledgling city has its own bike shop to cater to cyclists’ needs.
“The area is very active, and it’s exploding,” said Theo Propst, owner of Cycle Sports. “The infrastructure of Liberty Lake is very bicycle friendly and I wanted to be right in the middle of it.”
Propst opened his shop a few weeks ago, and since then has been busier than he ever expected, he said.
“I thought I’d take a week and have a grand opening, I’m going to end up taking a month it’s been so busy,” he said.
The highest selling items have been accessories, he said. He nearly depleted his stock after he opened, so he has to quickly reorder items.
An equal number of people are going in for bike tune-ups and repairs, Propst said.
A cyclist for more than 30 years, Propst lives in Otis Orchards and plans to move to Liberty Lake, a city he said he admires for its active community.
“Cycling is my passion and this is where I love to play,” he said.
Now that the shop is up and running, Propst is planning a grand opening sometime before Labor Day, and he also said he plans on holding community-wide bike rides.
So far the best part of his job has involved meeting new people, Propst said.
“It’s great meeting other cyclists who are getting excited about coming through the shop and getting excited about riding.”
