Health fair aims to aid Russian-speaking locals
A Slavic Health Fair will help local Russian-speaking families prepare for the school year with free immunizations and school physicals.
Sponsored by Washington State University’s Spokane County Cooperative Extension, the event will feature education and screenings by various health groups, lectures on diabetes and demonstrations on food safety. Fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as other free food, also will be distributed.
Organizers designed the fair for all age groups, said WSU’s Tatyana Bistrevsky. “Last year we had kids, we had teenagers, we had adults, we had seniors,” she said. “We had everyone.”
There also will be resources for people who lack health insurance and voter registration in Russian.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday in the basement rooms A, B and C at the Extension Office, 222 N. Havana. For more information, call (509) 477-3881.
