Big innings vault Boise past Spokane

The Spokesman-Review

BOISE – In the end, two big innings undid the Spokane Indians.

The Boise Hawks twice scored a barrage of runs – a three-run fourth and a five-run sixth – and beat Spokane 9-4 in Northwest League play Tuesday night.

Christopher Davis doubled in Chad Tracy to give Spokane a 2-1 lead after 3 1/2 innings, but with one out in the bottom of the inning, Tyler Colvin homered to right to tie it for Boise. Two more runs scored on Joshua Lansford’s double three batters later and Boise led 4-2.

Spokane scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the score at 4.

Wally Backman II homered leading off the fifth – his fifth – to make it 4-3, and Davis scored on a Steven Marquardt groundout in the sixth to tie it.

But Boise took advantage of four hits and two Spokane errors in the sixth to score five runs and put the game away.

Lansford finished 2 for 4 and drove in three runs to lead Boise’s offense, while Russell Canzler had three hits. Matt Camp and Colvin each drove in two runs.

Thomas Berkery and Davis each had two hits for Spokane.

Spokane’s Adam Schaecher threw three scoreless innings in relief of an ineffective Craig Crow (1-3), striking out one.
