Developer accused of violating codes

The Spokesman-Review

A Bayview developer has allegedly violated numerous building codes, including building a retaining wall without a permit and allowing RVs to set up too close to the Lake Pend Oreille shoreline.

The Kootenai County Building Department has issued five “stop work” orders for projects at Boileau’s Resort Condos, Vista Bay and View of the Bay Mobile Home Park.

Deputy County Attorney John Cafferty said it’s likely the county will recommend that the prosecutor’s office file misdemeanor charges against Waterford Park Homes LLC, owned by Bob Holland. Holland wasn’t available for comment Tuesday.

County Commissioner Rick Currie plans to tour the developments today.

In total, Cafferty said, there have been up to 20 violations, yet some of them have been resolved by the company.

Two of the pending violations are at Boileau’s, one for building a retaining wall without a permit and the other for remodeling the existing business without a permit.

At Vista Bay Marina, the county alleges that the company set up RVs in the 25-foot buffer zone that prohibits construction along the shoreline.

The county also tagged the marina for putting up a sign on state land without a permit.

View of the Bay Mobile Home Park allegedly violated county law by setting up two mobile homes without permits.

NIC trustee ends re-election bid

The vice chairman of the North Idaho College Board of Trustees has withdrawn his bid for re-election, leaving two candidates in the running: a Gonzaga faculty member and a Hayden man who says European Americans are the most discriminated class of people in the world.

Withdrawing is Denny Hague, who said it’s simply time for someone else to be on the board.

He said “wonderful people” have expressed interest in running for his seat, and he’d like to give someone else the opportunity to have a say.

Besides, “I’m not a very young pup anymore,” said Hague. “I would be 75 years old by the time I finished the six-year term.”

That leaves Gonzaga faculty member Dennis Conners, a former dean of instruction at NIC in the 1980s, and Hayden resident Stan Hess as the only people who’ve filed to run for the seat.

The filing deadline is 5 p.m. Friday. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and live in Kootenai County.
