Share ‘Alice’ with children this season
What better place to spend time with your child than Wonderland.
Spokane Valley’s own theater company, Theater Arts for Children, performs the classic play “Alice Through The Looking Glass” through Dec. 17 at the Spokane Valley Community Center, 10814 E. Broadway Ave.
The nonprofit community theater company has produced more than 40 plays since it started in December 1995. More than 175 young actors got their start in the company’s productions, and more than 300 children and 120 adults have been involved.
Performances of “Alice” will be at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 17. Advance tickets are not required unless you have a party of 10 or more. Tickets are $5 per seat.
“Alice Through the Looking Glass” is a stage version of Lewis Carroll’s children’s classic “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There.”
The stories introduce classic characters like the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Cheshire Cat and the White Rabbit.
Artistic director Vicki Hynes directs this production.
Auditions for shows are designed to be stress-free for children. Children who show up for an audition are asked to read from a provided script and do a little acting. If children can’t read, they can still audition.
Past productions have included “The Three Bears,” “Thumbelina,” “Rapunzel,” “Three Goats Gruff,” “The Adventure of Peter and the Wolf,” “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” “Puss in Boots,” “Pinocchio” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
Two productions remain in the 2006-07 season.
Auditions will be Jan. 7 and 8 for “Tikki Tikki Tembo,” a play written and directed by Ken Boles. The show will run Feb. 9-25.
Auditions are scheduled for March 4 and 5 for “Jack and the Beanstalk,” with performances April 13-29.
