U-Hi principal recovering from fall

University High School Principal Daryl Hart fractured his hip when he slipped and fell on a patch of ice in the school parking lot Thursday.

Hart, 55, was taken to Valley Medical Center where he underwent surgery following the accident, said Central Valley School District spokeswoman Melanie Rose.

Rose said that Hart was expected to be released from the hospital Friday. He’s not expected to return to school until after the first of the year.

The school’s vice principals will assume Hart’s duties during his absence. “He’s got a good team,” said Rose.
