Season of Sharing

Gift items being collected

The Spokane Valley Community Center will hold its annual Season of Sharing gift program Dec. 19, and donations of toys and stocking stuffers are being collected now.

The program helps provide gifts for low-income children in the area. Unwrapped toys can be donated at Spokane Valley Fire stations, numbers 1 through 8, or at the community center and food bank at 10814 E. Broadway Ave. Teen-appropriate items are in high demand.

The deadline for families to sign up to receive gifts is Friday. Donations after that should be dropped off at the community center.

A piece of mail with a current address, a picture ID for the person registering and Social Security cards or medical coupons for each child are required to register for gifts at the center.

Gifts will be distributed at Spokane Valley United Methodist church at the corner of Raymond and Main.

Christmas food baskets will be distributed at the food bank. They will be available based on the first letter of the recipient’s last name:

• M through S, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Dec. 20; T through Z, 1:30-4 p.m., Dec. 20; A through F, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Dec. 21; G through L, 1:30-4 p.m., Dec. 21.

Bad holiday gifts

Tell us about odd presents

For most folks, there’s at least one bright-pink bunny suit for every Red Ryder BB gun under the tree.

Whether it’s a bevy of beer mugs shaped like naked women from your uncle or those matching cyan sweaters for you and your dog, the Valley Voice is looking for the worst presents ever.

Have you received a gift so funny or odd that it has been preserved for posterity in your family lore?

Send e-mail to peterb@spokesman.com or call 927-2165. We’ll compile the most amusing answers for an upcoming story in the Valley Voice.
