Furniture stores don’t have to run flashy TV ads or exist in multistory buildings.

At least that’s what Better Buy Furniture owner Bob Goff thinks. His store, which moved and reopened on Monday, doesn’t jump out or make a scene.

“We believe in taking care of our customers,” Goff said from a chair in his new store. “This is not a pressure business. We talk and listen to customers.”

Goff’s staff is trained to allow customers make easy choices about a furniture purchase, he said. Other stores may have loud ads, but at Better Buy, getting a new chair is a low-stress activity.

“It’s the old fashioned way of doing business,” Goff said.

Better Buy moved into its new location at 13124 E. Sprague Ave. because the city of Spokane Valley forced Goff to remove his business signs from the old location at Pines Road and First Avenue, Goff said. The signs were in violation of the city’s sign ordinance.

Losing the signs cut Goff’s business in half, he said. To make up for the loss, Goff moved his business down the street to a vacant space near Value Village.

“People couldn’t find me,” Goff said. “This place took a lot of work, but we will continue doing business as we did before.”

The store sells several lines of furniture, including Rowe, Madison, Furniture Factory, Douglass and Heatherbrook, Goff said. The store also will build custom furniture from Charles Schneider.

Better Buy Furniture also sells used furniture, which makes up about 40 percent of the store’s inventory, Goff said.

And prices aren’t too bad either, Goff said.

“According to what our customers tell us, we’re the best priced store in town,” he said.
