Variety of yule services planned

Special Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services are being held throughout the region Sunday and Monday. Among them are:

Calvary Chapel of Spokane, 511 W. Hastings Road, is holding candlelight services at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

After the services, cookies will be served in the church’s Gathering Place. Child care will be provided for children 4 and younger during the 5 p.m. service.

Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., is offering a candlelight service and baptism at 7 p.m. Sunday.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 W. Third Ave., is offering a 10 a.m. service Sunday that will feature the church choir’s performance of “O Night Divine.”

The church will hold a family candlelight service at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and a festival worship service at 10 a.m. Christmas Day.

Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 N. Alberta St., is offering traditional Christmas Eve servicex at 9 and 10:45 a.m. There also will be a contemporary candlelight service with the worship team at 4 p.m. and a traditional candlelight service featuring the church choir at 9 p.m.

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., is presenting a Festival of Carols and Candles on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E. 30th Ave., is holding a children- and youth-centered service Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

There also will be a Festival of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. and candlelight Communion worship at 9 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 4704 N. Wall St., is presenting a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. and a Christmas Day service at 10 a.m.

First Covenant Church, 212 S. Division St., is offering a candlelight and Communion service Sunday at 5 p.m.

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., is presenting a children’s program and candle-lighting service at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve.

The church also will offer a worship service with the Unity Choir at 8 p.m. and a contemplative service at 10 p.m. with harp music.

The day will includes its regular 10 a.m. Sunday service.

“The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is presenting Christmas Music in the Cathedral with Harp on Sunday at 3:30 and 9:45 p.m.

The day also will feature a family Christmas Eucharist at 4 p.m., a Christmas carillon recital at 5:15 and 9:15 p.m., and Festival Choral Eucharist featuring the Cathedral Choir, the Handbell Choir and the Cathedral Brass at 10:30 p.m.

On Christmas Day, the church is offering a Holy Eucharist service at 10 a.m. and will present the Christmas carillon recital at 11 a.m.

Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St., is presenting a Christmas pageant at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The church also will hold a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m.

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., is offering a Celtic solstice today at 7 p.m.

The service will include a blessing and sharing of fire, along with Celtic readings and prayer. There will be a potluck Christmas party after the service.

On Sunday there will be a Christmas Eve Eucharist service geared towards children. The 6 p.m. service will include a Sunday School pageant.

The church will hold a 10:30 p.m. Vigil of Lessons and Carols and Eucharist on Sunday.

On Monday the church will celebrate a Christmas Day Eucharist at 10 a.m.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is holding Christmas Eve worship services starting at 4 p.m. with a candlelight family service, and a Communion, candlelight and carols service at 6 and 11 p.m.

The 11 p.m. service will feature the Chancel Choir.

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave., is offering a service at 10:30 a.m. Christmas Eve that will feature harpist Kelly Howard.

Michael Anderson dedication

Morning Star Baptist Church, 3909 W. Rowan Ave., is dedicating its library to the late Lt. Col. Michael P. Anderson, who died on the space shuttle Columbia in 2003.

The service will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Winter vacation Bible school

Northwood Presbyterian Church, 6721 N. Monroe, is presenting “The Truth About Angels,” a winter Vacation Bible school, Wednesday and next Thursday for children in kindergarten through the sixth grade.

The free program will include skits, crafts, games, music and stories about Jesus and angels.

Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. both days, and the classes will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
