Wrestling fundraiser tonight at EVHS

Craig Hanson had the idea a while ago and finally decided to go forward with it.

The East Valley wrestling coach and his 2006-07 squad will hold a fundraising father-son wrestling event tonight at 7 p.m. at East Valley High School.

“I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time,” Hanson said. “We have about 20 matches lined up between current wrestlers and their fathers. We even have one of our assistant coaches dressing up as Santa Claus to referee.”

Tickets for the event are by donation – either in cash or canned food – with all proceeds going to support the Valley Food Bank.

“I’d like to keep this going and make in an annual event,” Hanson said. “I think it will be fun.”

Hanson himself will wrestle. His son, Clete, was the Class 3A runner-up at 171 pounds at last year’s state tournament.
