Blessing of the Waters

The congregation of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church will gather at the Spokane River next Saturday for the traditional Blessings of the Waters ceremony. The public is welcome at the gathering, which begins at 1 p.m. at Boulder Beach, located on the river off Upriver Drive a little more than a mile west of Argonne Road.

The ceremony involves throwing a cross into the water to represent Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River. The blessing marks the Orthodox Christian Feast of Theophany, or “Manifestation of God,” which commemorates Christ’s baptism.
