Utah State posts first win over Vandals

Utah State had five players in double figures Thursday night while notching its first win over Idaho, 63-53 in a Western Athletic Conference game at Logan, Utah.

Utah State used a 12-0 run over more than 7 minutes to put the game away in the second half.

Four players scored 11 points for the Aggies (3-18, 2-9), including Jessica Freeman, who notched a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Emily Faurholt scored 20 for the first time in eight games for the Vandals (8-14, 4-7). Leilani Mitchell added 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists for Idaho, and Jessica Summers chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Utah State outrebounded the Vandals 42-30 and held them to 39 percent shooting from the field.

•Eastern Washington won its sixth straight home game with a 54-40 Big Sky Conference win over Weber State in Cheney.

Brittney Osborn led the way with 12 points and five rebounds for the Eagles (10-12, 4-5), who got 11 points and six rebounds from Leah Gonella.

EWU outrebounded the Wildcats 49-24 and held a 23-4 edge in second-chance points. The Eagles also outshot Weber 74-44 percent from the free-throw line.

Sara Toumi paced the Wildcats (9-13, 3-6) with 11 points.

•Kim Butler scored 18 to lead four Oregon State players in double figures, and the Beavers (12-11, 6-9) edged Washington State 59-50 in a Pac-10 matchup in Pullman.

Casey Nash notched a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds for OSU, and Mandy Close and Anita Rivera combined for 22 points.

Keisha Moore had 14 points to lead the Cougars (7-17, 1-14). Kate Benz chipped in a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

WSU held a 20-5 edge in offensive rebounds, but the difference came at the free-throw line, where the Beavers converted 16 of their 20 attempts while the Cougars made 8 of 18.

•Washington (17-7, 10-5) came from behind to defeat Oregon 61-55 in Seattle and remain within one game of second place in the Pac-10 Conference.

The Ducks (14-11, 5-10) held an 11-point lead with 11 minutes remaining before Jill Bell scored on five of the Huskies’ next six possessions.

Bell recorded her third career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
