Women’s golf team starts at NIC

North Idaho College has started a women’s club golf team.

NIC athletic trainer Randy Boswell, who teaches beginning golf at the college, is coaching the team, which will play in two tournaments this spring. Prairie Falls in Post Falls will be NIC’s home course.

The team has four to five players currently, and Boswell is hoping more will become involved.

Athletic Director Al Williams is optimistic the club team will develop into an NJCAA program. Williams said NIC will look at developing a men’s club team in 2007 or 2008.

“I think it’s exciting and a great opportunity for a lot of men and women that would love to play college golf,” Boswell said. “I’ve been calling some of the high school coaches and getting names of some of their former players that might be around.”

NIC will play in a tournament April 23 and 24 at Prairie Falls and The Links. The second tournament will be in May in the Tri-Cities.
