Silver Star Mountain

The Spokesman-Review

VERNON, B.C.

The skinny: Silver Star is known for dependable snow and premier daily grooming on 60Ks of trails that attract the Canadian national team and Olympians to state-of-the-art training facilities early in the season.

The Victorian-inspired alpine village, at elev. 5,300 feet, is 13 miles north of Vernon, yet it’s a handsomely designed small town in itself with housing situated so skiers can slide downhill to the lifts. One trail system starts at the village, the other is accessed by chairlift to the top of the alpine ski area.

Distractions: Alpine skiing, snowshoeing, snow tubing, outdoor skating, climbing wall, movie nights, sleigh rides, fitness center, shopping and spa.

Cool factor: Lighted tracks for night skiing and sprint spectacles plus a ski village with ski-out-the-door accommodations.

Daily trail fees: (Canadian funds) $18 daily, 12 for juniors and seniors, $8 for kids 6-12.
