A woman gave two people the address of a supposedly easy burglary target, police said. But the target spoiled the threesome’s plans when he shot one of the suspects, police said.

Artez L. Woodard, 20, and Leanna L. Wessels were being held at Spokane County Jail on first-degree burglary charges on Thursday, Spokane police spokesman Cpl. Tom Lee said. The third suspect, Greg Sharkey, 21, remains hospitalized in stable condition after being shot in his chest.

The incident began with a knock on the door of the victim’s apartment at 401 E. Magnesium on Feb. 11, Lee said. The victim stepped outside to speak to Sharkey, police said, and was immediately confronted by a second man that officers believe was Woolard.

“Feeling threatened, the victim fled back inside,” Lee said. “And he tried to shut the door.”

The apartment dweller shot Sharkey when he forced his way through the door and pointed a gun at him, Lee said. The other man apparently ran away.

Police found Sharkey bleeding from gunshot wounds to his chest.

Wessels and Woodard were arrested at their homes Wednesday afternoon, Lee said. Sharkey’s weapon was a pellet gun.

Missing mudflaps lead to drug arrest

Missing mudflaps resulted in an Edwall woman’s arrest for drug possession early Thursday in north Spokane.

The 26-year-old was pulled over, recognized by a Spokane County sheriff’s deputy and arrested on a warrant, spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said. When she was searched at the jail, a corrections officer found 10 grams of methamphetamine in a tin that fell from her pants.

Rachel K. Christensen was booked into Spokane County Jail on the warrant for possession of a controlled substance and a new felony count of possession of methamphetamine, Reagan said.

Deputy Mike Northway was patrolling near Highway 2 and Hawthorne Road about 2:50 a.m., Reagan said. He noticed a pickup without its mudflaps and pulled it over.

As he approached, he saw the driver making a movement consistent with stuffing something in her pants.

Head-on collision kills Tonasket man

A 51-year-old Tonasket, Wash., man was killed shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday in a two-car, head-on collision on State Route 20 in Ferry County.

State troopers said the collision occurred about 2 1/2 miles from the Sherman Pass summit when Coquitlam, British Columbia, resident Stanley H. Sather, 70, lost control of his westbound 2004 GMC pickup.

Sather skidded into the eastbound lane and struck a 1988 Chevrolet station wagon driven by Tonasket resident Clifford T. Brown.

Brown died at the scene. Sather and his passenger, 46-year-old Daniel S. Sather, also of Coquitlam, were treated and released at Ferry County Memorial Hospital in Republic, Wash.
