Hovde leads Nighthawks

Alex Hovde had 17 points and 13 rebounds and hit the go-ahead basket in the final minute as the Tekoa-Oakesdale’s boys basketball team held off Potlatch 64-62 Thursday in non-league action at Tekoa.

Austin Cook added 25 points for the Nighthawks (5-4). Brennan Pollock had 21 points, and Bryant Andres added 12 for Potlatch.

Girls basketball

Casey Smith had 17 points, including 3 of 4 from 3-point land, as Tekoa-Oakesdale used a 21-7 second quarter to ease past Potlatch 65-45 in a non-league matchup at Tekoa. Darci Chappell added 11 points and Britni Bohara 10 for the Nighthawks (6-3).

Idaho preps

Zech Szalasi scored 17 points as visiting St. Maries beat Kootenai 58-40 in a non-league boys basketball matchup at Harrison. Josh Masterson had four points and seven rebounds as the Lumberjacks (2-8) forced Kootenai (1-6) into 21 turnovers. … Kyle Turpin and Brandon Haas each finished with 14 points, and Joe Bodman added 13 as Post Falls (6-3) routed Timberlake (2-7) 90-30 at Post Falls. Haas also added eight rebounds as the Trojans scored 43 points off Timberlake turnovers.

•Kootenai’s girls jumped out to a 24-4 lead after one quarter and cruised the rest of the way to a 56-31 North Star League win over visiting Mullan at Harrison. Hanna Nyrop had a game-high 12 points, and Emily Frank added 10 points and seven rebounds for Kootenai (9-3, 3-0), which forced 19 Mullan turnovers. Katlyn Valerio had 19 points for the Tigers (1-8, 0-2).
