Superintendent search meetings planned

Staff reports The Spokesman-Review

The Freeman School District will hold two community meetings next week in the search for a new superintendent.

The first meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, at the Masonic Hall in Rockford. The second meeting will be held Wednesday, at 7 p.m. at the fire station in Valleyford, 12100 E. Palouse Highway.

Residents of the school district which encompasses Freeman, Mica, Rockford, Valleyford and the Hangman Hills areas are encouraged to come out express what they think is important for the school board to consider in the selection of the next superintendent. The meetings will be led by Educational Consultants, the Spokane-based search firm hired by the district to conduct a search.

“The consultants will be asking for input on what the criteria and the challenges for the new superintendent will be,” said current Superintendent Bill Thurston. That information will be used to compile a brochure for job candidates, he said.

Thurston announced his retirement in December, and plans to leave at the end of this school year. The board has said they would like to have a new superintendent in place by the first of April.
