National TV skips homework

The Spokesman-Review

Does a sports commentator have the responsibility to do his homework and know how to pronounce the name of the teams and their hometowns?

I think so!

Hubert Davis of ESPN2 was live on TV for the Gonzaga-Saint Joe’s game on New Year’s Eve. He must have said Gonzog-ah 50-100 times and Spo-cane at least twice, and it drives me nuts!

As we all know, this has been happening for years. His partner, John Shomby, did OK, but apparently never whispered the correct way to him.

Could, or should, a Gonzaga representative tactfully let radio and TV commentators know the correct pronunciation?

I still don’t know where folks get “og” from “ag”!
