Suspect faces murder charge

Associated Press

PENDLETON, Ore. – A Pendleton man in jail on charges of plotting to kill his parents now stands accused of killing a Hermiston landscaper missing since 2003.

Jonathan Flaiz, 24, was indicted last week on a charge of murdering Mark Delmar Engelhart.

District Attorney Chris Brauer said the grand jury heard enough testimony to hand up an indictment.

“While we didn’t locate the remains of Mark Engelhart, the grand jury had enough evidence to return a true bill … indict Mr. Flaiz,” Brauer said.

Engelhart’s family reported him missing in July 2003. Investigators and rescue teams have been looking for his body since.

Flaiz has been in jail since March.
