Cochran’s major decision win propels Bears past Panthers

Tyler Cochran’s 13-4 major decision win in the second to last match of the night sealed a 35-30 Greater Spokane League wrestling win for Central Valley over visiting Mead on Wednesday.

Mitch Davis (140) and Camren Ebat (160) landed the only two pins on the night for the Bears.

Also in GSL action, Paul Burdulis pinned Mitch Egget at 152 pounds to give Shadle Park momentum in its 39-35 win at Cheney. The Highlanders followed Burdulis’ pin with wins in three of the following four matches, including a pin from Cliff Chandler at 189. Ramil Sosa sealed the victory with a pin at 119 in the final match of the night. … Kramer Lane used an escape to send his 145-pound match into overtime, but Corbin Richardson soon followed with a takedown in a 9-7 decision to help Mt. Spokane blow past visiting Ferris 50-23. The Saxons’ Taylor Yonago racked up the points early and held off Drew McKinney 12-7 at 135. … Tony Gonzalez and Colton Yeigh scored late takedowns for crucial victories to aid Lewis and Clark in a 43-23 win over host West Valley. Donovan O’Neel (189) and Steve Johnson (215) also recorded impressive wins for the Tigers. … Dan Jordan (160) and Ben Borgman (171) scored pins in the first two matches of the night as host University defeated Rogers 58-16. Billy McGlasson (215) and Carter Smith (125) both had subminute pins for the Titans. …Zane Earl (112), Clayton Steeby (119), Bryce Beeler (152), Lyle Draper (160), and Brandon Cox (275) all landed pins in Clarkston’s 47-19 landslide win over North Cental.

Gymnastics

Despite landing three girls in the all-around top five, host North Central barely landed in the top spot, edging Rogers 143.825-143.6 in Greater Spokane League competition. Katie Sweatt earned honors as the top all-around gymnast, and teammates Ali Reid and Erin Kruger finished third and fifth, respectively. Lewis and Clark came in third at 142.975, while Mt. Spokane finished fourth with 119.33.

Girls basketball

Sammie Druffel scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Colton (8-4) in a 44-40 non-league win at Waitsburg (3-7).

•Inchelium (9-2, 7-1) used 16 points from Chelsi Pakootas in a 67-54 Panorama League victory at Cusick (8-3, 4-2).

Boys basketball

Lance Ragan and Cody Peone scored 16 apiece to lead Inchelium (4-8, 4-4) to a 55-46 Panorama League win over host Cusick (6-5, 3-3).

•Mark Sanders recorded 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists as Freeman (7-4) defeated host Medical Lake (2-6) 57-47 in a non-league game Tuesday night.
