McArthur’s 3-pointer lifts Post Falls
Post Falls rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter, and Kandice McArthur drilled a game-winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in overtime Saturday to lead the Trojans past Lake City 52-49 in an Inland Empire League girls basketball game.
Jenny McVeigh scored 19 points, and McArthur added 12 for the visiting Trojans (9-7, 6-3), who moved one game ahead of the Timberwolves (8-9, 5-4) for second place in league.
Katy Baker paced Lake City with 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Richelle Fenenbock chipped in with 11 points for the Timberwolves who managed just three points in the overtime period.
•Bonners Ferry outscored Timberlake 12-5 in overtime to claim a 58-51 win on the road in an Intermountain League game at Spirit Lake. Becky Lowther hit 5 of 9 field-goal attempts and 9 of 10 free throws to lead the Badgers (11-5, 5-0) with 20 points. Lynsie Powers scored 23 points for the Tigers (4-12, 0-5), including a game-tying shot with 30 seconds left to send the game into overtime. … Priest River used a full-court press to force 25 St. Maries turnovers en route to a 54-29 victory. Tabitha Clark topped the host Spartans (9-7, 3-2) with 19 points on 9-19 shooting. Sam Siron and Darbie Shelden each scored eight points for the Lumberjacks (7-7, 1-4).
•Cassie Scheffelmaier recorded 16 points, eight assists and three steals to lead Kootenai past visiting Lakeside (Plummer) 43-29 in a North Star League game at Harrison. Kendra Willms added eight points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Warriors (11-4, 5-1). Wynonna Johnson had 16 points and five steals, and Rian Miller had eight points and 12 rebounds for the Knights (7-8, 3-4).
•Kellogg hit game-tying shots in the final 20 seconds of regulation and the first two overtime periods en route to a 60-53 triple-overtime win against host Lapwai. The Wildcats (8-10) got 14 points apiece from Steph Cantrall and Marissa Bush while freshman center Amanda Seeling contributed 15 rebounds and four blocks in the non-league game. … Rashell Trunell scored six points and pulled down 18 rebounds, but Clark Fork could not overcome an 18-7 first-half deficit and lost 34-23 to host Noxon (Mont.). Bailey Hewitt also scored six points for the Wampus Cats (3-10).
Boys basketball
Brian Schultz and Michael Brewer combined for 37 of Sandpoint’s 50 points as the Bulldogs (7-5) topped host Kellogg 50-45 in a non-league game. Schultz led all scorers with 24 points, including 12 of 14 from the free-throw line. Jeremiah Big Spring led the Wildcats (8-3) with 15 points and nine rebounds, and Jacob Conboy chipped in 13 points. Sandpoint held a 16-4 edge in free-throw scoring. … Noxon (Mont. topped Clark Fork 47-28. Tyler Broggi and Brian Young each scored eight points, but the Wampus Cats (5-8) could only manage 12 second-half points.
•Lakeside (Plummer) notched its first win of the season, 50-47 over host Kootenai in a North Star League game at Harrison. Wyatt Peters scored 21 points, and Jeremiah Brunelle added 17 for the Knights (1-10, 1-4). Anthony Cranford led the Warriors (2-9, 1-3) with 11.
•Priest River rode a 25-11 halftime lead to a 52-30 victory over host St. Maries in an Intermountain League game. Micah Smith led the Spartans (6-5, 2-1) with 17 points, and Zach Szalasi aced the Lumberjacks (2-9, 0-3) with 10 points and eight rebounds. PR outshot St. Maries 41 percent to 25 percent. … Bonners Ferry forced 22 Timberlake turnovers in the second half, and the Badgers (8-5, 3-0) cruised to a 67-33 victory over the host Tigers (2-11, 0-2) at Spirit Lake. Bonners broke open a seven-point lead at halftime by outscoring the Tigers 28-5 in the third quarter.
Wrestling
Riverside finished 1 1/2 points ahead of Lewis and Clark to win the Riverside Classic with 201 1/2 points. Bonners Ferry finished third overall with 146 1/2 points. The Badgers won four of five weight classes between 152 and 189: Ken Swift (152), Jozef Musial (171), Don Dining (189) and Ben Turner (215).
