Committee backs nominee for Fish and Game post

From staff reports

BOISE – A Senate committee unanimously backed Tony McDermott of Sagle as the new North Idaho member of the state Fish and Game Commission on Monday, and it sent the appointment to the full Senate for final confirmation.

A Montana native, McDermott served in the military for nearly 28 years. He was a professor of military science for four years at the University of Montana in the 1980s before working in Seattle as the region training officer for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets.

He returned to the University of Montana to teach military science at the urging of friend and former Secretary of State Colin Powell before moving to North Idaho and selling real estate. Senate Resource Committee members raised no objections to his appointment.
