Soap Lake chooses site for giant lava lamp
SOAP LAKE, Wash. – Soap Lake has found a home for its 50-foot-tall lava lamp, about a half block off Main Street.
Now that the City Council has selected the location, officials in the central Washington town are trying to raise about $100,000 to assemble the tourist attraction.
The 52,000-pound lamp was donated to the city in 2004 by the Target Corp. after the company used it as a display in New York City’s Times Square.
The lamp, which officials hope to have set up and functioning by next summer, has been lying in pieces on the floor of a warehouse in Ephrata since its arrival in February 2005. The Soap Lake City Council is looking into building a park around the lamp.
