Sears store will open in Cheney

Sears is coming to Cheney.
A vacant 5,000-foot building that formerly housed Cheney Furniture at 10 W. First St. is being scrubbed and waxed and will be ready for retail business about Feb. 1.
“A grand opening is scheduled for March 11,” said owner Dan Hilton. “There will be prizes, giveaways and sales on that day.”
Sears Craftsman tools will play a prominent role in the store’s display, and the store will stock many of the items usually found at larger Sears stores.
What they don’t have, they can get, Hilton said.
“Home delivery is guaranteed,” Hilton said.
“Anything we don’t stock, you can order here. Whatever Sears sells nationwide, we can get it.”
Hilton intends to begin with six or seven employees.
“Our hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays,” he said. Hilton and his wife, Keri, will both work in the store.
They plan to paint the outside of the building when the weather warms up.
Hilton grew up in Cheney.
“I’m a local boy,” he said. “Cheney deserves a store like this.”
