Kirilenko, Jazz upend New Jersey
Andrei Kirilenko had 21 points and 13 rebounds to help the Utah Jazz overcome Jason Kidd’s triple-double and beat the New Jersey Nets 89-78 on Monday night in Salt Lake City.
Kidd posted his league-leading third triple-double with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. It was the 70th of his career. However, Kidd missed 12 of his 15 field goal attempts.
Mehmet Okur scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Jazz.
Richard Jefferson had 32 points, but the Nets shot a season-low 33 percent, including 2 for 21 from 3-point range. New Jersey s previous low was 34.7 percent in an 81-69 loss to Memphis on Jan. 13.
Clippers 96, Warriors 93: At Oakland, Calif., Elton Brand had 28 points and nine rebounds, and Sam Cassell scored the final four points on free throws as Los Angeles rallied from a 19-point deficit in the second half to beat Golden State.
Nuggets 107, Raptors 101: At Denver, Carmelo Anthony’s 37 were enough to lead Denver past Toronto for its sixth straight win. Kenyon Martin added 25 points and 12 rebounds as the Nuggets improved to 10-2 in January.
Celtics 91, Hornets 78: At Boston, Ricky Davis scored 17 of his 32 points in the third quarter to lead Boston past New Orleans. Raef LaFrentz added 18 points and Paul Pierce had 16 and nine rebounds for the Celtics, who have won six of their last eight home games.
Hawks 104, Pacers 94: At Atlanta, Joe Johnson scored 28 points, Al Harrington had 20 and Atlanta rallied in the second half for a win over Indiana. The Hawks trailed 56-48 at halftime, and the Pacers twice stretched the lead to 11 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. But Atlanta, with the league’s worst record and coming off two straight blowout losses at home, surged in front before the period was over.
Rockets 97, Bucks 80: At Milwaukee, Tracy McGrady scored 41 points, including 14 straight in the fourth quarter, to lead Houston past Milwaukee. Andrew Bogut, who finished with 10 points, hit a short basket to make it 76-75 just over a minute into the fourth before McGrady took over with his personal 14-0 run.
Off the court
Looking for help in the backcourt since Damon Stoudamire injured his knee late last month, the Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Chucky Atkins.
Atkins joined the Grizzlies in Miami where they play the Heat tonight.
The seven-year veteran was averaging 6.7 points and 2.5 assists with the Washington Wizards before they agreed to a buyout of his $4.5 million contract last week.
“Charlotte guard Keith Bogans sprained his knee and will join five other Bobcats on the sidelines. Bogans was injured in Saturday night’s 101-91 loss to Milwaukee. No timetable was given for his return. Bogans averaged 8.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 22 minutes in 39 games this season.
