Cameron carries CV past Pirates

Kevin Cameron made the game-wining layup off an inbound pass with 4 seconds left Thursday, and Central Valley edged Rogers 55-54 in Greater Spokane League boys basketball at Rogers.

Nick Ambrose paced CV (12-3, 6-2) with 16 points, while Matt Morgan scored 12 and Luke Clift added 11.

Scotty Livengood led all scorers with 21 points for the Pirates (6-9, 2-6).

Girls basketball

Central Valley used a quick start to post a 57-41 GSL win at Rogers. Heidi Heintz’s 21 points led three CV players in double figures. Justine Bowman added 12 and Sarah Gehring 10 for the Bears (10-5, 6-2). Denisha Whitehead scored 15 points and dished out five assists, and D’Erica Jones had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates (2-13, 0-8).

Wrestling

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) clinched the Great Northern League title with a 53-19 win over visiting Colville. John Millard got a pin at 171 pounds to start a streak of seven straight six-point wins for the Eagles, including a pin by Duanne Carr at 215 in a lengthy match of 5:23. Lakeside is 7-0 in league. … In other GNL action, Medical Lake needed three pins and two forfeits to edge Riverside 36-33 at Riverside. Robert Spackman, a fifth-place finisher at state last year, got a subminute pin at 125 for Riverside. … Deer Park won 11 consecutive matches between 275 and 152, including five pins, and defeated host Chewelah 57-18. Ryan Jorgensen (140) and Waylen Cork (160) picked up major decisions and Logan Smith (152) got a technical fall for the winners.

Gymnastics

University placed three among the top five in the all-around and scored 159.125 points to win a four-way GSL meet at Lewis and Clark. Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) placed second. Sara Hanson of Mt. Spokane was the top all-around finisher (35 points) and placed first in the floor exercise (8.95). U-Hi’s Kayla McGahey finished second in the all-around (34.25) and won the uneven bars (9.35) and balance beam (9.35).
