Stoddard sticks it from line as Lake City holds on
Ty Stoddard made four of Lake City’s five free throws in the final 90 seconds, leading the Timberwolves to a 49-46 victory over host Moscow in an Inland Empire League boys basketball game Friday night.
Stoddard finished with a game-high 17 points for the Timberwolves (6-9, 4-3), who moved within a half-game of the Bears (10-6, 5-3) for second place in the league. Brad and Brett Bemis added 12 apiece.
Shane Miller scored 14 to lead the Bears, and Paul Wimer added 13.
In other IEL action, Bo Gregg and Shane Moser scored 14 points apiece to lead five Lewiston players in double figures as the Bengals defeated host Sandpoint 73-54. Beau Blewett added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bengals (15-1, 6-1), who outscored the Bulldogs 40-18 in the second half. Brian Shultz scored a game-high 15 for the Bulldogs (8-8, 3-5), and Michael Brewer added 11 points and seven rebounds.
“David Park scored 13 points as Post Falls Christian remained undefeated with an 80-39 rout of visiting Kootenai in a North Star League game. Brandon Messier added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (13-0, 8-0), who opened up a 46-13 halftime lead. Anthony Cranford scored a game-high 15 for the Warriors (3-11, 1-5).
“Jacob Kagarise scored 16 points for the game and Kellogg turned it on in the second half en route to a 65-38 victory over host Wallace in a non-league game. Joey Sauer added 11 points for the Wildcats (11-4), who outscored the Miners 36-11 in the second half. Mike Leeling scored 11 to lead Wallace (5-10).
Girls basketball
Kelsey Taylor scored 14 points and Moscow wrapped up the 4A Region I top seed with a 49-23 rout of visiting Lake City in Inland Empire League play. Kelly Scott added 11 points for the Bears (8-10, 7-4), who took the Timberwolves out of the game early by outscoring them 17-2 in the first quarter. Riki Moreland scored eight points to lead LC (9-10, 6-5), which trailed 37-12 entering the fourth. … Brittney Devorak, Cara Judd and Betsy Hechtner scored six points apiece, and Lewiston (8-12, 3-9) shot 13 of 14 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to defeat host Sandpoint 41-32. Ashleigh Mire scored a game-high 11 for the Bulldogs (7-11, 3-7), and Kendal Burt pulled down nine rebounds.
“Cassie Scheffelmaier scored 11 points to lead Kootenai to a 52-17 rout of host Post Falls Christian in a North Star League game. Nikita Amy and Kendra Willms added 10 apiece for the Warriors (14-4, 7-1), who opened up a 27-8 halftime lead. Katie Hoye scored 11 to lead the Eagles (5-11, 2-7).
