Deputies who shot auditor’s nephew identified
TACOMA — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has identified two deputies who killed the nephew of State Auditor Brian Sonntag after the man shot at a Washington State Patrol trooper last week.
Deputies Scott Mock and Richard Scaniffe are on paid leave while the shooting of Jack Sonntag, 25, of Graham, is investigated
The two shot at Sonntag on Thursday after he’d been involved in a shootout with Trooper Kelly Kalmbach as she tried to arrest him for drunken driving.
Investigators said Sonntag ignored deputies’ warnings and drew a handgun.
Kalmbach, 47, was recovering from gunshot wounds to both legs and her left forearm.
