From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

A small plane crashed near Seven Bays Marina on Lake Roosevelt on Saturday, killing three people on board, police said.

In the early afternoon, the single-engine aircraft was seen approaching a private airstrip near Seven Bays.

“An eyewitness said they saw the plane in a pretty deep banking turn” before crashing, said Kelly Watkins, chief criminal investigator for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Names of the three victims were not immediately available.

According to information in a database maintained by the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was owned by Charles W. McCanna, of Federal Way, and John Standt, whose hometown was not given.

They also are listed as the registered owners of another small plane and a helicopter.

The plane was an amateur-built, experimental aircraft made in 1983, according to the database.
